Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Academy is one of the established Fisheries Academies in Asia which is situated in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It was established in 1973 by Former USSR and most of the instructors and translators were from USSR and they were sending cadets to USSR for higher study upon completion of the course. In 1975 they moved to USSR because of government change. Then Instructors came from Denmark and Japan.
Actually the course duration was two and half years. The courses are consisted of theoretical, workshop (Practical) and sea going (on board) training at sea.
It is specialised for the Marine Engineering, Navigation and Fish Processing Technology. It offers a limited number of seats for the above courses and students are to face a competitive admission test to get the chance in the Academy. In the modern educational environment cadets build the base of their career and also learn about the responsibility, punctuality, self-confidence, decision making etc by the Academic training. After successful completion of the two years course, students get the BMS (Bachelor of Maritime Studies) degree under the National University, Bangladesh which is worldwide recognised. Most of the ex-cadets are working in many places of the world holding high to highest responsible post.
